I remember the promos for that. As I was still a kid I had no interest in watching the actual production. The promos consisted mostly of close-ups of Plummer speaking softly. Didn't know Caine or Shaw was in it.
Wow.
One of my 'must haves' has been announced as coming soon on BBC America's DVDs in the Works. Christopher Plummer takes the lead, Michael Caine is Horatio, Robert Shaw is Claudius.
What a Christmas present! :does happy dance:

Now confirmed for release on the 25th October, what a cast
Hamlet at Elsinore - DVD
I have seen this .... it is very good. Shaw makes a fine Claudius and Caine is a better than expected Horatio.
Great that time has been taken to do a decent restoration on this :)
It's turning out to be a very good year for those of us who are Robert Shaw fans with his appearance in another Shakespeare, 'A Winter's Tale' being part of the Library of Congress finds. It always makes me feel sad to think that if it hadn't been for his sudden death he would have played Lear in the BBC Shakespeare series. Very much looking forward to seeing him as Claudius, finally.
