    FEBRUARY NEWSLETTER
    Dear Fellow B Movie Fans,
I thought I would start this newsletter in our new format, so we can let you know our thoughts on this months new releases: YOUR MONEY OR YOUR WIFE, MAN IN THE MIRROR & another of our increasingly popular Double Bills; OPERATION DIPLOMAT / THE SICILIANS.
Our First Release, Man In The Mirror is a 1936 JH production JH being Julius Hagen a prolific producer of some 125 titles who went on to become the owner of Twickenham film studios. The film starring: American Edward Everett Horton fellow American Genevieve Tobin a young Alistair SIM showing his already blossoming comic talents (although his role would not be regarded as ‘pc’ these days ) and the evergreen Felix Aylmer. Maurice Elvey does an excellent job as director the film also boasts the editing talents of Ralph Kemplen who later edited African Queen, Oliver and The Day of The Jackal amongst others. Way ahead of its time in cinema technique and restored to a high standard this title is a must...
Our Second release this month is Your Money Of Your Wife made in 1960 and released by Rank this comedy starred Donald Sindon best known on tv for Two’s Company and Never The Twain in fact almost his first screen role was in The Cruel Sea. Peggy Cummins co stars and with her looks and ability should have gone on to bigger and better also in the cast Richard Wattis a regular on tv alongside Eric Sykes etc the hard working Peter Reynolds also has a part he sadly later died in Australia falling asleep whilst smoking….
This typical British comedy farce has been restored to a high standard with excellent picture and sound.
And finally personal favourites of mine , our final releases for February a Double Bill ; Operation Diplomat & The Sicilians. Its easy to see why John Guillermin went on togreat heights as a director - with his directorial pace and choice of angles Operation Diplomat feels more like an A feature than a Butchers support. A good supporting cast Guy Rolfe, Lisa Daniely , Patricia Dainton and the ever present Sydney Taffler .
Rolfe is convincing as the surgeon turned detective although his role as The heavy smoking surgeon would worry you! This film is a most enjoyable part of this Butchers double bill picture and sound have been restored to a good quality making this an interesting and collectable film.
The Sicilians Directed By Ernest Morris, allows Butchers to show off all their low budget skills , London, Paris and New York without even leaving Shepperton Studios! Take The Mafia and an aide in the American Embassy in London and add a French Connection.. Robert Hutton cousin of Barbara Hutton (Woolworths) gives the film an American feel. Eric Pohlman is the French Inspector and supporting roles for Patricia Hayes, Warren Mitchell and the prolific Michael Balfour who appeared in no less than 182 titles. The Nightclub and the dancers are all very ‘sixties’ at their best but a fun film nonetheless with both picture and sound restored to a good quality.
Next month we bring you The Challenge, Broken Melody & That Woman Opposite!!

    Enjoy! All The Best

Not a bad film that and I'm sure the Captain will be just as pleased that it is the 1960 rather than 1938 film

Why would anyone want Jayne Mansfield rather than Mary Clare?

I, for one, would definitely prefer a night with Jayne Mansfield, rather than with Mary Clare, but, of course, others may have different tastes......

Exactly, I'm racking my brains trying to think of the reason.

Thanks Renown for the release of Stars ON Parade/Cavalcade Of variety.welcome release of British films of the 30s and 40s.More please.Partly makes up for the fiasco of Network announcing the release of Limelight(1936) and subsequently cancelling it.
By the way if you own the rights to Underneath The Arches could you please consider giving that a release.

Thanks Renown for keeping us British film lovers up to speed with your forthcoming releases. To date I have over 20 of your classics and in those blue boxes the DVD’s always stand out from the others as well. Congratulations also on the new 2011 neon blue opening logo which caught us by surprise playing a recent issue from you. As with all on hear we have a long list of wants and sometimes the waiting is the best part perhaps. Thanks to young Sarah for the recent update of forthcoming issues from you and it looks like being a very exciting year for collectors.
    Happy days!

It appears they may do - it was a Julius Hagen production, and they own his other Twickenham films.

    And LOL @ Captain

Just taken delivery of MAN IN THE MIRROR DVD and congratulations Renown on another fabulous issue! The original print is stunning and a very welcome replacement for my ancient VHS recording. Its so nice to see these older titles getting a proper issue now on DVD and in this case dating back to 1936.
    Worth every penny.
