Here's some good news: Olive Films is releasing Dirk Bogarde's DESPAIR (1978), directed by Rainer Werner Fassbinder......7th June, 2011! Mark your calendars. We've been waiting a long time for this one.

That's a good news Barbara, I've read the book and always wanted to watch the film, just thinking: Andréa Ferreol AND Dirk Bogarde !! ... it sounds like an explosive screen couple, like DB and Charlotte Rampling in The Night Porter

I've just been told that a remastered PAL version of DESPAIR will come out this year as well. Anyone in the PAL region may wish to wait for the remastered disc.

Update on DESPAIR (1978)

When I read a note that Olive Film's region one DVD of DESPAIR, to be released 7th June, is from Bavaria Media's restored print, I wrote to Bavaria Media to verify it. Olive Films doesn't include this important information in its description, so I wanted to make sure.

The good news: Bavaria Media confirms that by agreement Olive Films is using BM's restored print, which was overseen by Michael Ballhaus, Director of Photography for the film.

This restored print is the one screened this month in the Cannes Classics.

In September, Bavaria Media will release its print on DVD, region two.
