Arthur Crabtree's 1945 melodrama, "They were sisters", with Phyllis Calvert and James Mason, is due for release in April by Odeon in their "Best of British" series.

Excellent news - I imagine there may be slightly more than the usual amount of interest for this one because the Film Programme did an item on it and the (highly recommended) Tnovel is one of Persephone Press's bestsellers. Fingers crossed for They Knew Mr Knight based on the same author as well.

When did the Film Programme mention it, Captain? I'm looking forward to seeing it...

A few months ago. They had a regular slot on forgotten classics of British cinema and discussed this at great length but of course all they could say to people who wanted to see it was that there's an out-of-print video you can get on eBay ('other auction sites are available'). It's a good film but the book is even better (though more depressing )

Just arrived and I must say not very impressive. A fairly poor print has been used, and there does not seem to have been any attempt to restore the picture. Plenty of blobs and even one or two obvious splices. I think a better print was used when the film came out on VHS in 1995 - you might be tempted to stick with that

Oh dear! I was told the prints weren't in good condition, so why have they not had any work done? And in fact, why is it worse than a 15-year old VHS release? If I were you, I'd write to complain.
