RENOWN B MOVIE FAN CLUB LETTER MAY 2011
Dear B Movie Fans
Firstly, some of you may like to know that Renown will be present at The 60th BFCC on Saturday 14th May from 10.15am till 5pm @ the Winston Churchill Hall, Pinn Way, Ruislip. If any of our members are local, perhaps you would like to pop in for a chat and take us up on some of our SHOW ONLY special offers.
Our first release for this month, is Madame Louise (aka The Madam Gambles - USA) starring Richard Hearne, Petula Clark. A typical Mr Pastry, with a mixture of the "littleman" and slapstick not unlike the late Norman Wisdom. The woman owner of a dress shop gambles the shop away to her bookie who inherits not only the shop but Mr Pastry (the manager) and his assistant Petula Clark. Roles are reversed in this caper and all ends well...
Our second title for this month is the long awaited release of Blind Spot This Butchers 1958 remake of the 1950film 'Blackout' produced by the prodigious pair of Baker and Berman who were later famous for "The Saint" … there must be an interesting story as you would think Baker and Berman were in competition with Butchers! Directed by Peter Maxwell is a very watchable production. Robert Mackenzie as the blind American serviceman who does sound a bit like Sean Connery from time to time but is supported by Gordon Jackson, John Le Mesurier and no less than a very young Michael Caine. Very collectable with good restored picture and sound.
This month we bring you another exclusive offer: BUY ONE GET ONE FREE: Madame Louise £12.99 Blind Spot £12.99 Plus postage (£1.99) total= £29.97 YOU PAY £14.98

And finally our new newsletter section “Looking For…” Mr DS Jones, from Cardiff is looking for “Ring Of Spies” starring Bernard Lee, this was a British Lion Production released in 1964 and sadly has never been released on DVD or even VHS, which is a shame as its not a bad little film. This filmed is now owned by Studio canal.
Mr Hunt of West Sussex is looking for “No trees in the street “ a 1959 allegro production which was released theatrically by British pathe and on home video by Warner's in 1990. A great cast in this gritty British crime picture …also Mr Hunt is
Looking for the original “Hunchback of Notre Dam” that was the 1923 Lon Chaney Production which is now probably in the public domain and can be downloaded free.
Please keep your requests coming!Next month we bring you, The Traitor. Happy Viewing! Best wishes Noel & Sarah

Just wanted to say it was lovely to meet you both at Ruislip BFCC and boy your films are so popular! Keep up the good work.
Good old Mr Pastry…
Yes it was good to see Renown at the BFCC. I bought a few dvds as there were good offers available.
IF there is another BFCC next year hopefully Renown did enough business to return.
Mal
The plot as printed on the Jacket of Blind Spot is that of Blackout I think, certainly not of Blind Spot (1958). A small point and a highly watch-able film.
Blind Spot is a re-make of Blackout, so the plot is the same....
Mal. Looks like new venue next year again but a fantastic day!
Got "Blind Spot" today and enjoyed the story but the sound is not the best and the picture a little bleached. Will try different settings next time I watch it. I still find the DVDs are too low sound wise and need alot of volume.
Hi. I often find viewing some B&W films an my Plasma box of tricks I need to turn down the contrast a little to save washout. Its more about the contrast here what with very deep blacks on a plasma screen than anything else. If you are using a Plazzy as well try switching to lower power settings as this is also a very quick way to lower what can often be see as bleach out on these old flicks.
Madame Louise views very well and its amazing when viewed against the old vintage VHS just how much more detail can be seen via the new DVD from Renown. Its rather like watching a whole new movie! My Blind Spot DVD is now on order so will let you know how we get on with this one later this week.
Checked out Blind Spot on the Plasma and quality is very good with no noticeable bleach out here. TV was set to full power, contrast 90% and brightness 80%. I switch off the surround sound when showing mono audio films as it increases audio levels, at least on my box of tricks. Another great issue from Renown but I am shortly gonna need more space!
