Though it does have the dullest romantic pairing in cinema history

An interesting support cast in this film. It includes Wylie Watson (Mr. Memory in The 39 Steps), former 'Where Have We Seen Them Before?' subject Nora Gordon and, in an early uncredited role, none other than Barbara Lott, Ronnie Corbett's mother in Eighties sitcom Sorry.

On the Unnoticed front, I'd be interested to see if anyone can spot Harry Herbert on the new DVD. I recently saw him, for about two seconds, in Time Gentlemen, Please! where he played a Tramp, like Eddie Byrne's character. He was also in Will Any Gentleman ...?, as a Stage Door Keeper. I know you have this film, Gerald. Any chance of a screencap so we can match both appearances at 'Unnoticed Actors and Actresses'? By the way, the IMDb has Harry Herbert's year of birth as 1889 and death 2003 - approaching 114. Are they right?

    Danny Boy (1941)

A certain Percy Manchester sings a couple of songs in this film, The Mountains of Mourne and Dear Old Pals. Any relation to Melissa?

Interesting to see that Play's description says that "extensive restoration work has been done". When this film was shown on BBC in the 1990s I remember the print was quite scratched in places..........

Was Wylie Watson actually playing the cello? His fingerwork looked very convincing.

I think he might have been unless there was some sort of musician's union rule against Equity members playing for real. According to his IMDB biog he was a cellist with an opera company in his youth and he also gets to play (at some length) in Girl in a Million

Thank you CW - I thought he looked at ease with the instrument. I see from Quinlan's book on Film Character Actors that he was also a boy vocalist who sang 15 times a day in a waxworks. He was clearly a very talented person.
