I don't know this film so just checked it out on IMDb - a film in which Oliver Reed appears as "Man with bucket on his head" has got to be worth a look!

Don't chuck your earlier versions away yet - I've just received this and the letterbox aspect ratio is appalling - a little slot of picture in the centre of the screen with inches of blank around each edge. Plus the print used is very poor. I'm minded to send it back. They should have held off the release if this is the best source material available. A major disappointment.

It's a while since I've seen it but I seem to recall that's exactly who he does play. Very well too, but he may have had prior experience

I think this is an absorbing drama, and unusual for its time (cynicism around politics) although it does share a few similarities with Fame Is The Spur. Peter Finch is very excellent as ever, although his character is very flawed and at times irritating. I find the Labour Party intrigues much more interesting than Finch's character's tangled love life, which occupy a good deal of the running time. Great cast overall.
