they repeated these about 10 years ago at around 1.30 pm on bbc1
where they now have endless diagnosis murder and such like
they were very good but anything remotely violent was edited out
the stories would confusingly just jump from one scene to another

I'm getting deja vu, there have been promises in the past of an official Shoestring release but it always gets hung up on music copyright due to the Radio West scenes.

An edited version might seem odd:

"Hello and welcome to Radio West, up first in today's show is <4 minutes of eerie silence>. Well, that was<n't> the latest hit from the Human League and now it's time for some top of the charts <generic elevator muzac>."

Yes given the long history of rumoured releases of this I would normally share your cynacism however the fact that the individual episodes have been passed virtually uncut by the BBFC gives me hope.....

This is definitely coming out, in a fortnight - finally!

Uncut too - there's been one music replacement in episode 1, "Private Ear", but that's it. Apparently they had to go back to the original film prints in at least some of the cases because any taped copy that was about the place was edited!

AFAIK, these were last seen uncut in the early 1990s on UK Gold. Certainly not on the BBC since repeats in 1981 (if they were indeed uncut then, but I presume they were).

That's excellent news Dino ... the episodes were definitely cut when shown recently on Alibi.
BBC4 showed one of the finest episodes of Shoestring: Mocking Bird compeletly uncut to accompany The Cult of Shoestring last shown on 30th December 2008.

Yeah I know - isn't it terrific ?

"Mocking Bird" also got a showing on BBC2 in 1993 as part of a 'Cops on the Box' evening, it was for many years the only episode I had. Mmm, luckily it always seems to be uncut when shown!

I missed news of this release but luckily it was an Amazon "recommendation" so I've just ordered!

What's it like, those who already have it?

It's better than I thought it would be, knowing it only from reputation and those edited episodes. I've sampled three episodes so far, all very good.
