After watching The Cockleshell Heroes, I'm beginning to wonder if young Tony didn't invent the Sixties all on his lonesome...

And that was in 1955....
Anthony Newley was a trailblazer indeed, embodying 1960s attitudes in the mid-1950s....Just listen to him on the 1956 London cast recording of the revue Cranks..... !
Fantastic news. Cant wait to hear
"This is a land where it's mighty tough
Where the marching men are made
But I'm a guy that doesn't dig that stuff
I guess I'm Idol on Parade etc etc.
Rock on............cassidy.
Wonderful news!
I have a really bad copy, it will be good to see it again, hopefully looking as good as the first time I saw it at the Granada, Clapham Junction when it was first released.
Funny that it has taken me over 50 years to notice that the title of the film was spelt incorrectly on the original E.P.
The UK release was called IDLE ON PARADE, in the USA it was IDOL ON PARADE so the UK Decca record is correct....!
Great film, Jeep Jackson, Sidney James,Lionel Jeffries plus William Bendix. Wonderful!! Could you ask for any more in a British film?
1930s star William Kendall is there as well (he made such an impression on AN that he also appeared in Anthony Newley's Gurney Slade tv series as well), the delightful Anne Aubrey, Harry Fowler, the excellent David Lodge, and even young John Wood and debby Susan Hampshire can be glimpsed - and Anthony Newley sings four songs as well, including the Top 10 hit 'I've Waited So Long'........
Could you ask for any more in a 1959 British film?
