City, coast and countryside fun and frolics and a celebration of the English history and heritage of some of the tourist hotspots of yesteryear as filmed by celebrated `quota quickie' B-movie producer Harold Baim. A comprehensive over 6 hour collection of archive films that would have originally been seen at your local cinema as secondary features to some of the biggest movies of the 50s, 60s & 70s!


DISC ONE (1944 - 1960)

1) OUR MR SHAKESPEARE (36 mins, 1944) (Black and White) An educational travelogue around Shakespeare's birthplace, Stratford-On-Avon, detouring into the surrounding beautiful Cotswold villages.

2) A POCKET FULL OF RYE (16 mins, 1955) (Black and White) The ancient smuggling town of Rye in Sussex, with its narrow cobbled streets, timbered houses and old fortifications, exploring the Romney Marshes, Bodiam Castle and hop gathering.

3) DOWN SOMERSET WAY (16 mins, 1957) Featuring Weston Super Mare, and Cheddar Gorge; an interesting travel film of a tour of the beautiful county of Somerset.

4) THE ENGLISH RIVIERA (16 mins, 1958) This is the first in a series of four films about Devon. Featuring Torquay, beaches, beauty spots, historic buildings and some of the most magnificent scenic areas in Britain.

5) THE ROYAL COUNTY : (17 mins, 1958) It is called the Royal County because this is where the Queen has one of her residences - Sandringham. Norfolk is unique with its series of interconnected waterways called the 'Broads' are just part of its tremendous attraction which is captured here.

6) IN GLORIOUS DEVON (16 mins, 1958) The second film on Devon features Paignton, Totnes, Brixham Dartmouth and a cruise along the River Dart. This programme includes a look at Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth.

7) THE BELLE OF KENT : (14 mins, 1959) A travel film which tours Margate, the Kentish coast, Canterbury Cathedral and holiday entertainment in the 'Garden of England'.

8) PLAYGROUND SPECTACULAR (26 mins, 1960) Blackpool; "the most popular resort in Britain". This film exhausts the many varied activities available in this leisure town. The charm of this long-standing resort is brought across beautifully and it contrasts wonderfully with the helter-skelter of the big, glamorous and thrill-seeking rides now available.

9) Bonus film: THIS IS GUERNSEY (24 mins, 1963) Guernsey, the second largest of the Channel Islands situated between England and France. A fascinating tour of one of the island; the only British territories to be occupied by the Germans during the Second World War.


DISC TWO (1961 - 1974)

10) STORIES FROM LAKELAND (25 mins, 1961) A tour of the renowned Lake District, a visual delight that captures the tranquillity and drama of this quite outstanding area.

11) WORLD OF WAX (24 mins, 1962) A look behind the scenes at Madame Tussauds in London.

12) THE QUAY TO THE TOR (22 mins, 1964) Torquay, the famous resort which is surrounded by some fantastic countryside.

13) THE PLYMOUTH SOUND (24 mins, 1973) From Drake and ships to destroyers and aircraft carriers, this film looks at the vibrant city of Plymouth.

14) YORK (23 mins, 1972) York; The ancient city and Roman capital with its celebrated Minster.

15) RESERVED FOR ANIMALS (28 mins, 1974) Terry Wogan takes a trip to the Safari Park at Woburn Abbey, the Duke of Bedford's home and looks at a variety of the animals there, their lifestyle and the way in which the Park looks after them in this environment.

16) DON'T GAPE (27 minutes 1974) Terry Wogan narrates this film which shows the antic of the animals at Twycross Zoo in the Midlands

17) BONUS FEATURE - PETE MURRAY TAKES YOU TO HASTINGS (17 mins, 1983) Pete Murray, TV Personality & DJ explores Hastings - the famous resort and one of the Cinque Ports
