    Out on 13/12/2011 the George Cukor directed film of the Robert Morley / Noel Langley play starring Katherine Hepburn and Deborah Kerr shot at MGM British.

    So that people aren't disappointed I'll point out that there' s no Katherine Hepburn but you do get Felix Aylmer and Mervyn Johns Oh, and Spencer Tracy...

    One of Tracy's best films. A bit sad it only merits a DVD-R release but a sign of the times!

    I wish it would get a stage revival - the device of Edward never appearing is theatrical rather than cinematic as is the whole stucture of a series of unconnected sequences several years apart. It would work well as a radio play. The film has some fine performances though Deborah Kerr's aging make-up is very much school of Mr Chips . I wish Robert Morely had got to play the lead though.
