This Australian release soon from Madman is boasting that it contains (possibly) worldwide exclusive lost episodes. It also has a number of very nice extras, for those interested.

Seems like good value at $39.95. I'll be scouring the shops!!

Curses ! Just after I'd been given a copy of the Acorn set ! Looks like some great extras, including some of the 'lost' episodes. Could these be the five BW copies held by the BBC ? Would be even better if they'd found some way to re-unite their soundtracks with the German dubbed colour versions.

Reading the blurb, they describe the 'lost' episodes as being from the final (colour) series.

"Worldwide exclusive ?lost? episodes from the final series of PAUL TEMPLE"

I may be wrong, but I think what they mean are the 'surviving' episodes, the ones that are found on the Acorn release.

It's not very clear is it ? The 'lost' episodes, the FM commentary on Games People Play and a booklet seem to be exclusive to the Madman set, but it would be helpful if they told you what the 'lost' episodes are. From the Paul Temple Media Gems site, the BBC seems to hold monochrome copies (16mm b/w film recordings of orig. videotape)of five of the final colour season episodes, namely :

    THE GUILTY MUST DIE

    GAME, SET AND MATCH

    LONG RIDE TO RED GAP

    WINNER TAKES ALL

CRITCS, YES! (BUT THIS IS RIDICULOUS)

There are apparantly dubbed German copies in existence of all the second, third and fourth season episodes. All first season episodes appear to be completely lost. So I wonder what definition of 'lost' they are using ?

I would think that it is only a draft blurb that has made it to Madman's website and I would expect more detail as the release date approaches. They have been doing some excellent work with TV boxsets from the UK and the US. And very well priced too.

The Paul Temple Black and White Collection

These ultra-rare final 5 episodes exist as monochrome 16mm English soundtrack tele-recordings that were returned to the BBC from New Zealand. These are the remaining 5 episodes of the 16 stored in the BBC archive.

Stylish, cool, incisive ... protective of his beautiful, loving wife Steve ... Paul Temple was an exemplary crime-writer turned crime-solver who operated with a brilliant mind like Poirot and the slick cutting-edge, suave sophisticated style of The Saint ...
This collection captures the final five episodes of the classic TV series:

    The Guilty Must Die
    Game, Set and Match
    Long Ride to Red Gap
    Winner Take All
Critics, Yes! But This is Ridiculous!

Starring Francis Matthews as Francis Durbridge's Paul Temple and Ros Drinkwater as Steve Temple.
    Available to pre-order from Amazon £13-97 ... release date: 2nd April 2012

Yes it will be nice to see them on a UK DVD release at last. I have seen 'The Guilty Must Die' thanks to a friend however I have only seen some test sequences from 'Game, Set and Match ' that were done from the CR [Colour Recovery] process a few years ago by Richard Russell.
