Just had an e-mail from Renown Pictures and next month they will be releasing these two films as a double bill on DVD. the former stars Mary Clare amd the latter Tod Slaughter ( in a non-horror/meldorama role )

Excellent news. Say it with Flowers is a competely splendid film - touching story, marvellous performance by Mary Clare in a starring role and lots of music hall greats (Charles Coburn gets to do his hit Man Who Broke the Bank at Monte Carlo). Can't wait to throw away my blurry bootleg.

i would mention that the true companion to "Say It With Flowers" is "Music Hall".A film which features many music hall greats of the time and Debroy Somers. It gives an idea of what sort of presentation would be given by a Dance band on the halls.

Or Variety Jubilee which has some of the same performers. It's a bit dull though...

Haven't heard of this one but intrigued by the mention of 'music hall'. Can those who have seen it give us a flavour of what to expect?

It's like a 1930s Cliff Richard musical in which a bunch of fans put on a show to save the music hall with hald the film being devoted to well-known performers doing their famous songs. I like Baxter very much indeed - he's one of the few film-makers of the time to deal with genuine working class subjects (the montage of market life in Say it with Flowers is cracking). I hope more of his films become available

It sound as if it would appeal to me given your description Captain - less of the Cliff reference though!
