Default 'Strange Report' & special editions...

I’m reluctant to criticise Network as; on the whole, they do a fantastic job and continue to release a fine selection of archive material. However, it’s somewhat annoying to learn that they’ve now released a ‘special edition’ of the Strange Report, with the addition of a fifth disc of extras.

The music industry adopted the approach of releasing an album only for it to come out several months later with additional tracks or a bonus DVD or something of that ilk a number of years ago, so I hope Network aren’t setting a trend here. Are we all expected to buy the whole set again in order to get the extra disc or perhaps Network will consider a service whereby the bonus disc only is available to those who can provide proof of purchase for the original version?

A similar thing happened with The Prisoner set – the ‘definitive’ set has now been superseded by the recent Network one!

It’s important that we support these archive releases in order for them to continue but I don’t think this is a positive move. Thoughts, anyone?

Not only this, but now they appear to be putting out the 'extra' documentary from THE PRISONER set, entitled 'Don't Knock Yourself Out' as a separate item with (if I am reading this right) exclusive extras in itself...

If my reading of this is correct, this goes far beyond milking it.

When I bought the Strange Report it was with the understanding that their was an interview with Kaz Garas, I was wrong. So I am a bit miffed.

Looking at the Network website, isn't this simply a re-introduction of STRANGE REPORT in its original 5-disc format? IIRC, once the initial 5-disc packs ran out they re-issued it as a 'bare bones' series release - so this is (in fact) a second bite at the cherry for those who missed out on the original run - albeit an expensive second bite if you gave in and bought the 4 disc version....

Going about it this way I think they should re-title the series STRANGE MARKETING.

Surely better in THIS case to put the extras out as a single disc after all the bare bones units they've sold?

Perhaps they should release the 5th disc of extras separately in addition to the set.

He's a big lad these days. If you weren't told, I don't think you'd recognise him straight off. Comes across as a nice chap.

Well he emulated Marlon Brando in MIAS and in a sense he has therefore emulated Brando in real life (lets hope he doesn't go the whole hog ).

Really cheesed off - bought the box set from Play.com last week thinking that all sets had the extras on them as described on the Network site.

When it arrived - I immediately took off the shrink wrap - only to find none of the disks had these extras - really disappointed!

Contacted Network and asked if I could purchase the extras DVD and they basically said - tough - return the set to Play and order the set from us! Don't really think Play would accept a return of an opened pack.

I would so much like to see these extras! but cannot justify buying another copy.
