e-Bay can be a very useful resource. My problem with it is that they make it nigh-on impossible for one to get obviously illegal products removed. If you are not the rights-owner all you can do is file a report that an item is a bootleg. I've done this so many times for soundtrack CDs - all to no avail.

I just had a look under 'John Barry' (a pet subject) and can see boots of The Deep, The Tamarind Seed, The Black Hole, Howard The Duck, Mary, Queen of Scots, The Legend of the Lone Ranger, Night Games, Jagged Edge, Game of Death etc. Many of these are so obviously boots, including as they do "bonus tracks" from completely different soundtracks, the label names given as "Lone" & "KGB" etc.

But I've given up on this. It needs someone like Watchdog to expose their methods and shame them into tightening up their rules and checks.

In my Filmjournal blog, I wondered aloud about how Orbit had gotten a hold on 'The Crimson Pirate' which is, according to etailers, due for release soon and which, though now OOP over there, had been released by Warners in R1. I received this reply:

Regarding the Crimson Pirate - I’ve had that Orbit R2 release since well before Christmas (I’m slightly perplexed that according to most etailers it hasn’t been officially released yet) and, indeed, it is utter trash PQ wise. Blurry, VHS quality.

Good to see them maintaining a consistency...

I've noticed one of their releases is a set of Laurel and Hardy features described as classics. IMHO and many others the films are amongst their poorest.

Had a few releases from Orbit over the years and have replaced many with better quality prints. The only good quality release I,ve got is The Girl Hunters in a nice criisp widscreen edition.

That is a good print .... I also have Burn which is a good print too.
