On the back of (most but not all are stated ) DVD covers there is the following message in very small print:
"For contractual reasons certain edits have been made" The usual problem is music clearance for a DVD release and is usually made to a TV series and in some cases not only music has bee removed but the scenes with it too or the music has been replaced with something completely different. I have listed below TV titles that I know of and if anyone can add to (or confirm ) this would be very helpful to me and others here. Absolutely Fabulous Complete scenes have been cut just because someone quotes a couple of lines of 'Like A Prayer'. ![]() Only fools and Horses. There is quite a number of episodes that have had scenes edited/cut because of the original tv transmission music not being included,I will hopefully draw up a list of the titles (if needed ). This Life. Music related. as OFAH (see above ) C.S.I. Crime Scene Investigation. The Who's track Who Are You at the Beginning/End titles have been replaced with something else. Queer As Folk Music. Roswell Music Quantum Leap Music edited on R1 Season 2 release Only as R2 is intact. Life on Mars Series 1 Episode 4 Rolling Stones'-Wild Horses track has been replaced. Deep Purple's 'Fireball' and Blue Oyster Cults 'Stairway to the Stars' tracks omitted but can not confirm it this 100% can anyone ? On the packaging, there is NO mention of music edits or substitutions made to this DVD. |

UPDATE on the Only Fools and Horses episodes.
A Royal Flush (Feature length Special ) I have been checking around and it seems this feature lengh episode is missing approximately 22 minutes of footage on DVD. The original episode ran at 80 minutes and the DVD runs at 58mins and has had a laughter track added . ![]() The DVD is missing the following scenes: Del's running argument with the other opera goers at the theatre and large chunks of Del's final humiliation of Rodney at the Duke of Maylebury's dining table. Jolly Boy's Outing There is 8-10 minutes missing from the nightclub scene where Del and Rodney talk about his marriage problems. The scene is crucial to events that happen later and there is no justification for leaving it out other than because of the music used. Miami Twice. The makers of this DVD have decided to edit the two episodes together, and put a laughter track on the 2nd episode Oh to Be in England. This heavily detracts from the episode, as the laughter is not meant to be there at all. |

Threads, the 1985 nuclear war drama from the BBC. The original broadcast featured the strains of Richard Stauss's Alpine Symphony during the opening spider's web sequence. This was removed from the later VHS and current DVD release.
Delius - A Song Of Summer Ken Russell's BBC drama-doc. The BFI DVD release is missing a scene in which Eric Fenby (Christopher Gable) is improvising at the cinema organ to a silent clip of a Laurel and Hardy film |
