Carrington V.C.
1955 Classic Black & White Tense courtroom drama about an officer accused of stealing military funds. Major Carrington is a war hero plagued by financial troubles and a dissatisfied wife, who is pushed into taking what he believes is rightfully his - without permission. His CO is outraged and orders a court martial. The court case proves sensational. Carrington V.C. was DELETED from VHS and is not yet available to buy on DVD either. So, get a tape in and tape this rare Anthony Asquith film starring the epitome of english talent, David Niven!. This was the first of two Asquith films starring Niven. [ 02. Oh yeah, I forgot to put down when Carrington V.C. is on, lol :)
Wednesday 2nd July on Channel 4 @ 12:50 Although everyone thinks of Niven as a light comedy actor and a Hollywood cad, he proved more than capable in acting in serious films. Check out his acting in this film and you won't be dissapointed. He's a classic english actor and he made as many films in England as he did in America, hopping back and forth between industries. Niven is an actor that deserves a serious career retrospect so he can get the credit he rightfully and respectfully deserves, for his acting and as an man of class and a master of the english moustache :)

Also Sheridan Morley's book "The Other Side of the Moon" which gives the details behind many of the stories in "The Moon's a Baloon" and "Bring on the Empty Horses".
Those two books by Niven shouldn't be regarded as autobiographies. He was just telling tales from Hollywood and putting himself in them. One of his best roles was the character called David Niven :) But for his work in "A Matter of Life and Death", "Separate Tables", "Carrington V.C." and a few others I'll forgive him anything. |

A piece of cross-fertilisation trivia from my military and film history interests...
The producers felt it would be more realistic if David Niven were wearing a real VC, and put out an appeal in newspapers. Arthur Henry Cross, who was awarded the VC for an action on 25 March 1918 whilst serving with the Machine Gun Corps, responded. There are a number of promotional photographs of Cross with David Niven in costume. |
