As an international company, Amazon will have no problem selling you a multi-region player.
The cheaper models are often the most MR.......

No doubt the answer is to make your request for a region free player to the shop before you purchase and this saves the trouble of messing around with codes etc.

The only problem but easily overcome is that most of the High Street multis who shall be nameless do not sell multi region players. So the motto is Go to someone who does! There is certainly no problem in buying a region free player/recorder but most people tend not to think about this until after the purchase has been made.
As Captain Wiggle It () mentioned above:
My method is to go to Richer Sounds and say 'I want your cheapest multiregional dvd player/recorder'. Works perfectly for me!

I bought a Sony in Tottenham Court Road and the bloke offered to make it multi-region without me even asking.

All 'Cambridge Audio' DVD players are manufactured region free.

I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous.
