Default A Touch Of Frost Series 6 DVD question

I've been thinking of picking this up for a while, but the thing that's been holding me back is that a while ago, the Daily Mail gave away a free DVD of the first episode of Series 6, 'Appendix Man', and it had some of the worst cropping I've ever seen in my life. It looked like someone had taken an already cropped 4:3 version and chopped it top and bottom to 16:9 again, totally ruining the framing.

I know that some freebie discs seem to be made to deliberately look worse (Short Circuit springs to mind), but I'm wondering if they used the same masters for the retail discs, and if they are affected in the same way, or if they are OK.

If anyone has this set (or series 7,8,9) and can offer any advice as to whether these problems exist on the retail versions, I would be very grateful.
