VCI have been the victims of bootleggers rather than been bootleggers themselves.

They are the only company to have a license of release City of the Dead on DVD in the US but they have to endure the bootleg copies of Horror Hotel (the US version) produced by bootleggers such as Cheezy Flicks which are even sold by Amazon.com themselves. They no doubt lost out on sales the year people were placing orders for the bootleg version of Scrooge that BBC Worldwide and Warner Home Entertainment were selling (until I noticed it and helped put an end to it, BBC Worldwide claimed that they had thought the film was in the public domain, you would think that someone at BBC Worldwide would have been employed who had some sort of basis grasp of law on copyright).

Ah, that's all right then. Confusing initialisations, I always thought they were the same company.

I don't know anyone who managed to find a properly working copy of that one. There was lots of "digital blocking" where the picture would freeze or judder slowly and break down into huge blocks. There was also a lot of breakthrough from one track to another. You'd be watching one scene and see ghostly images of another scene some distance away in the film

A dreadful release

Steve

I have never had any problem with my copy of this MVC special DVD of BLIMP......I think it may have been due to your equipment....perhaps a DVD player 'doctored' by a retailer to be multi-region ?
You must be the only one. Everyone else in the P&P email group that bought one had trouble with it - or at least, a LOT of people reported having trouble with it. Some of them even sent them to me when they couldn't find anything else to do with them.

It wasn't a problem with my player. I tried them on a lot of different players, some 'doctored', some not 'doctored'. Exactly the same very poor results on each player.

I think you just got lucky

Looking at that cover they're not pushing the boat out. The truth will out when the first person buys it...

VCI is not only a legitimate releasing company, it's also been relentless in its efforts to deliver good product at a reasonable price since the early days of home video.

I can't speak for the quality of any of the coming British series but the Kit Parker Collection releases were a huge coup for the company and a delight for B movie fans.

The company also has supported several resortation projects, the most notable being Jay Fenton's work on 'Blonde Ice' several years ago.

The company is family-owned and operated and is totally committed to its mission. I've met with them at several film noir festivals and believe me, they are the real deal - good businessmen but film enthusiasts first. It's in their blood. Read on...
