Thanks for the info Doc, another one to add to the list!........Excuse me for being pernickity, and correct me if I'm wrong, but as Abortion is a major theme in this Movie, the Movie is saying 1968, but I was under the impression Abortion in the UK was legalised in 1967?

The Wednesday Play Up the Junction was made in 1965
and i would think the movie version would have been filmed during 1967 as it was released in March of 1968 so it may not have been pasted as law by the time they stared filming

Here are some frame grabs from the Uk disc - pity there are no extras, not even a trailer.

Contender for DVD of the year, despite the zero extras...surely a Dennis Waterman commentary could have been recorded? Anyway, looks great and the Manfred Mann s'track is one of the best. Lovely!

I watched this dvd last night and thought the transfer was superb. I think this transfer was probably done in the US as I am sad to say that I have never seen a UK transfer of an old title that measures up to this, but I hope I can be proved wrong. The only problem I was aware of was the presence of compression artifacts which is especially noticeable in night scenes.
I thought the 5.1 was rather pointless as the music was still mono. I watched the film with the 'restored mono' track which sounded like it was from a magnetic source but found it had been over eq'd as it sounded a little bright, particularly in the music.
Someday I hope to hear a stereo version of the commercial album. I have the original LP which is mono. The re-issue CD was mono, which tells me that if a stereo LP master ever existed it is probably lost.
Around the time of filming, which was probably sometime in 1967, I attended a projectionists course at Wandsworth Technical College once a week and took the train from Waterloo which stopped at Clapham Junction. I wished I'd stopped off and watched the filming and had the opportunity of meeting Suzy Kendall!

I remember watching this one Sunday evening in the early 70's, trying to hide a tear at the death of Denis Waterman. I loved Maureen Lipman and was stunned by Hylda Baker, only knowing her at this time for her musical hall sketches with Cynthia.
Loved it then, tempted to by the new DVD but worried I'd be disappointed nearly 40 years later.

Hi Mr Sloane. It was MG's character, not Waterman's, that dies.

Yeah its Terry who dies and very nasty it is to
The print is fantastic but i did notice a flaw when they are in the pub singing there is a mark at the top but i think its from the original camera as its not constant
its fantastic value at £7 also

I know what you are referring to. That is a hair in the gate, something every camera crew dreads missing. That is why the assistant director shouts out 'check the gate' at the end of the scene. This is a cue for the focus puller to open the camera and pull the camera matte to see if there is any visible dirt protruding into the picture area. If there is they will have to do another take. The mattes or aperture plates get dirty quickly and the crew regularly have to use a dust jet to keep it clean.
That was a pretty big chunk and I don't understand how they missed it.
