Might be a bit premature to mention this, but these two have just shown up on the BBFC’s recent submissions list

Blue Blood (1973, Andrew Sinclair)

The Smashing Bird I Used to Know (1969, under its American title School for Unclaimed Girls)

So presumably someone has plans to issue those two on UK DVD in the near future, the distributor is “Showbox Media”.

No, it's an old version (from 2004).

Same crappy transfer & cuts, but with a yellow cover rather than red.

Perhaps we'll get a blue coloured one next year...

Does anyone know for sure if the new DVD is different to the previous release, because the new release is 3 minutes longer according to Amazon so maybe they reinstated the phone box scene near the beginning and used a better print? I have a great Channel 4 recording (VHS to DVD) of this film complete with the phone box scene, and it's this particular version I'd like to improve upon.

It should be pointed out that DVD running times from online retailers are often inaccurate.

I guess the only way you'll know for sure is to go and buy a copy and let the rest of us know.

Televista are a bootleg company. I think they are connected to Jef films. Remember that awful bootleg of The Big Job?

I see they are releasing 'PAL' versions of their films, which will only make their VHS transfers worse, surely? Amazon shows an October release date for Crooks Anonymous, another bootleg.

Does anyone know why the telephone scene was cut out?

Dave.

We've got the new Region-1 RUNAWAY BUS on order - when it arrives, I'll post the review. The theatrical version seemed clear and good, and it did include that telephone-box scene. Since we've received so many 'new prints' of old Brit films this season, all of which are now showing up as Region-1 DVDs here, I'm hoping this latest DVD will be the digitized version of this latest print.

I keep thinking about James Coburn's THE PRESIDENT'S ANALYST, where the real enemy turns out to be TPC instead of Cold War participants! TPC - The Phone Company.
