I notice also that the digital restoration that Granada have supplied to Network for "Capricorn One" is to be released on DVD with a ratio aspect of 1.85:1, not the 2.35:1 theatrical aspect ratio.

They can only do as well as they can with the materials they have available. And I don't think they have access to the original negatives.

According to that post on Mausoleum, it does have the Powell/Scorcese commentary.

Re: Black Narcissus DVD
Network have just contacted me to say that they couldn't include the Powell/Scorsese documentary from the Criterion release but they will include:
* Painting With Light documentary
* A Profile of Black Narcissus documentary
* Stills Gallery
* Original Theatrical Trailer
* Commemorative Booklet

I assume you mean the audio commentary by Powell and Scorcese. They should have recorded a new commentary with Jack Cardiff.

Yes, I did mean the commentary. It'd be hard to beat that commentary on the Criterion laserdisk & DVD.

Jack is in the A Profile of Black Narcissus documentary. That's made by the same people that made the other A profile of ... documentaries on the Carlton DVDs of Blimp & TRS but for some reason Carlton never re-released BN with the documentary.

And the Painting With Light documentary is all about Jack, with a bit from Kathleen Byron and others as well. That's on the Criterion DVD.

Good news regarding the second volume of British Transport Films, the first collection was really excellent. I hope this one or one in the future includes the film "Under Night Streets" as my father (who worked for London Transport) helped out on that one.

Carry On Christmas Special DVD containing the four made for TV specials:
CARRY ON CHRISTMAS (1973)
CARRY ON CHRISTMAS (1969)
CARRY ON AGAIN CHRISTMAS (1970)
CARRY ON CHRISTMAS: CARRY ON STUFFING (1972)

Released on the 17th October and trailled on BBC's breakfast show by Wendy Richards today.

I must admit I can't remember the specials. My puritanical mother must have censored their showing in our house!
