Oh What A Lovely War! - Britmovie

Does anyone know if Oh What A Lovely War! is coming out on DVD soon (at all?). According to a bulletin board on IMDB it was due for release in spring 2005 but I can't find anything on the forthcoming lists anywhere.

There were supposed to be quite a few extras on the DVD which would have made it an outstanding package. Mind you, the film alone is long overdue for DVD release.

It hasn't yet been submitted to the bbfc for classification - but I really hope that this gets a well deserved release soon.

Thanks for the info Steve. I do have a copy of the video I got from ebay a while ago, but a dvd with extras will be a lot better.

Just a thought, but if the film had a classification on it's original release in the cinema, why does it need to be classified again? Am I missing something???

Firstly, classifications have altered since 1969 (the days of A's and X's)

Secondly, home videos require stricter new classification as they are more accessable.

Thirdly, widescreen versions of previously released 4:3 versions require new certificates as these the image presented may lose or gain something on the screen.

I've been waiting for this one too, a remarkable film. Who can watch the ending without getting a lump in the throat?

Picked up a dvd of this at the weekend. Am I being thick? I don't seem to be able to find it on the Brit-film list. It must be British, surely? Filmed on Brighton Pier, written by Britons, mostly-British cast and British director.......... could only make any sense at all to somebody who had a notion of British history........

The dvd cover says that the interview Lord Attenborough has given on it was his first for a home release, so that suggests he has strong feelings for the movie.

I remember watching this years ago and thinking, 'God, this is weird'. And then the ending blew me away. Maybe I'll enjoy the body of the film more, this time.
