Default MYSTERY AND IMAGINATION (1966) The Complete Series from Network

amazon uk have announced that on March 16th, Network are releasing the complete series of Mystery and Imagination (1966) on three discs. But I thought that most of this series had been wiped or was missing....and even if all the episodes were still available, I'm sure they wouldn't fit on three discs.

it's scheduled for 23 march on amazon but there's been no confirmation from network,so expect this to be re-scheduled or cancelled in the near future.
as for the content, the stated duration of the boxset tallies with the overall runtime of the following episodes:

uncle silas
dracula
frankenstein
the suicide club
sweeney todd
the curse of the mummy

the other two surviving episodes 'fall of the house of usher' and 'the open door'
are under a different license.

Thanks, jaycad. I thought they wouldn't be able to get the entire series on three discs, but, as you say, we must expect it not to be released after all.

Yes indeed, I don't think I've ever managed to get one of these 'bargain' offers Amazing how they keep managing to release stuff I don't want like Watching, yet the likes of Reeder and M&I fall by the wayside. Most vexing!

Just been reading more about this on Network's website and apparently in one episode Freddie Jones " gives an astonishing performance as the demented barber Sweeney Todd ", appetite whetted even more now

Default A tribute to 'The Lost Stradivarius'

Now that I know how to copy and upload PDF files (as explained in my latest unpopular thread!), I'd like to share some hidden gems from the TVTimes archives with you. As we still await the exciting DVD release, I am heartbroken to discover that most of the episodes no longer exist, including the very first - The Lost Stradivarius. An ironic title. I'm so sad (and angry) that we won't get to see TV Gold like this and heartbroken for those who worked on it. Once again, I say with all seriousness, that I am relying on the Afterlife to supply us with what's been lost. It's our only hope!

Here is TVTimes' promotion of the tragic programme:

Of course, Jeremy Brett went on to play the violin-playing Sherlock Holmes two decades later. Quite a coincidence.
Jeremy bears the most extraordinary resemblance to Patrick Mower in this image ... don't you think?

What else was on ITV in that region? Anything there that stands out apart from our subject?

Broadcast 29th January 1966, when The Overlanders' bland version of Michelle was No. 1

I'd like to dedicate this post to fellow Sixties TV fan Harbottle, if only for his earlier use of the old-fashioned word 'vexing'!

Thanks corner, I seem to be increasingly vexed these days. Very interesting shots from the TV Times, looks like you have quite an archive of fascinating publications to hand. Thanks for sharing items from them I must agree what a shame that Jeremy Brett episode is now lost, love to have seen that

Glad to oblige, Harbottle. I hope you share my belief in a TV Heaven! Lost episodes of Public Eye, Callan and Take Three Girls are all up there waiting for us you know! Even I have difficulty imagining all 147 of United! will be though. And of course the elusive Marked Personal.
