I think that I will wait until April, having bought the afforementioned "Hammer Horror Series" with "Paranoiac" and "Nightmare" from the US. I ended up with a box set of tasty titles that jumped about, froze and generally misbehaved. It was only the feeling that a dodgy copy is better than no copy that stopped me seeking a refund.

Have you tried ripping the discs and burning as Region 0's? I've bought a few scratched second hand rarities in the pst that I have been able to watch perfectly after doing this. The laser in a PC DVD-ROM drive is often better than in a DVD player and so can read the discs without faults.

The Universal Hammer Horror Series was notorious for the poor quality of its discs. My first set was awful. Half the films didn't work, and some worked for about ten minutes before freezing or starting to jump around.

As I'd ordered it from the US and was in the UK at the time, Amazon sent me a replacement copy and said I needn't bother sending back the dud.

Sorry to hear this Paul-You could try the tip from Gogglebox-as these films are too good to do without! Shame on Universal, as there have been a high proportion of complaints about this set-though luckily mine's was unscathed-Best to you.

Firstly, many thanks to Gogglebox UK, Dave Rattigan and scenesixty for your help. I have now tried to Rip and Burn the discs but they refuse to be copied. As luck would have it, the return guarantee period has expired but as they say "Nothing Ventured Nothig Gained ", I have e-mailed moviemars-usa to see if they will do anything to help me. I will of course let you know what happens. All the best .....

This info comes from the Sony website. CoD seems to have had several running times and been released in several different versions, presumably depending on the length of the feature it was supporting.

According to the Monthly Film Bulletin, December 1963 issue, the UK theatrical running time was only 66m. I am aware that versions screened previously on UK TV have run 77m. The BBFC website states that the version submitted to them ran 88m. Not sure what the length of the Sony print will be but it is almost certain to be at least 11m longer than the UK theatrical release version.

By the way, the print of The Full Treatment would seem to be the full length British cut (the MFB has this at 109m) rather than the US theatrical cut which ran 90m. This film was originally given an X by the BBFC.

I have never seen Full Treatment, The Snorkel or Never Take Sweets and its about 20 years since I saw CoD. very much looking forward to this.

Firstly m3 thanks for additional info. I have the handout issued by the BFI for 'COD' and it states 77 minutes. So an extra 11 m is nothing short of a generous bonus! Regarding 'Never Take Sweets' I found this film draggy and to be quite frank quite tedious-but-that is only my view. Maniac I saw about 20 years ago! Can't recall ever seeing 'The Snorkel'-all in all though, very much looking forward to the coming set-esp of course for COD!

There's quite a difference in running times between the US and UK versions of The Snorkel.

The US version ran for 74 minutes while the UK version has a running time of 90 minutes.

Hopefully we'll see the full cut in this set. I already have both versions although the UK 90 minute copy I have is very poor quality compared to the US version.
