These Optimum Avengers releases are just so good, really looking forward to the rest of the releases coming our way this year, it really is not before time that this series is getting the treatment it properly deserves.

IMHO Optimum have and are producing the definitive versions of this splendid series.

Will these sets be released on Blu-Ray? I don't want to buy the SD DVD's and then have to double dip a short time later....

Just received this email update from Amazon …

‘Greetings from Amazon.co.uk

"The Avengers - Series 4 [DVD]"
Estimated dispatch date: 6th-7th June, 2010
Estimated delivery/arrival date: 9th/10th June, 2010 – 14th June 2010

One of Amazon's aims is to provide a convenient and efficient service; in this case, we have fallen short. Please accept our sincere apologies.’

The good news is that the latest Amazon pre-order prices for The Avengers Series 4 and 5 box-sets have been reduced to £42-98 each.

BD's are a possibility next year, depending on the sales of the SD's. I'd buy the BD's like a shot but am not sufficiently tempted by the SD's to upgrade from my Contender sets, so I'm in a bit of a Catch 22

You crazy idiots - my name's McGill!

I don't work for Play.com or anything, but I always recommend them because P&P is free for those of us abroad.

OK, the price is one penny above amazon's at 42.99 (for 3, 4, 5 and 6).

BUT Play shafts you by using its own, decidedly dodgy, exchange rate from pounds into euros. Unless, of course, you're paying in pounds, but with the pound as weak as it is I prefer to order from Amazon, pay the postage, and reap the exchange rate rewards by paying using the actual pound to euro exchange rate.

You're right! I've never noticed before (since I don't usually compare punds to euros), but the euros price of these sets (55.99) is actually closer to 49 quid - that's about 6 quid for 'postage'. Hmm...

Exactly. And when the euro/pound were near parity a few months ago it would have worked out at about £13 'postage'. Dodgy!

It's something you never notice with small stuff - after all, a 3.99 euro CD that 'should' be 3.50 ... who cares? But box sets and so on, I may have to rethink ... (If it was a bit easier to know what amazon are going to charge - they vary don't they?).

The worst incident of this kind I had was when I made a massive order (of around 25 items) from HMV using my foreign card - only to discover when I checked my bank statement that each item had been charged to my account individually rather than as one simple transaction, meaning that I had to pay the 'conversion' charge to my bank for using my card 'abroad' 25 times! I won't be using them again.

I find Amazon are the best of the bunch. You simply pay the equivalent in euros based on the exchange rate (with one euro to pound conversion charge to your bank for the whole order).
