Default The world ten times over - 1963
I can't believe it!! Optimum are going to release The World Ten Times Over from 1963 starring Sylvia Syms, June Ritchie, Edward Judd, Jack Gwillim, William Hartnell, Francis de Woolf and Sarah Lawson.

The release date is January 2010. Have waited a long time to see this film. Fingers crossed

I haven't seen the DVD cover artwork yet. I have the original UK film poster and lobby cards and I'm really looking forward to seeing this film. The DVD will also include the original film trailer.

Clearly one for the 'stockings and suspenders' fan. But Sylvia keeps her kit on
....
In the USA, this film was released as PUSSYCAT ALLEY, as I recall !




This dour drama is about the misfortunes of two aging single women. Billa (Sylvia Sims) and Ginnie (June Ritchie) live together in an apartment, and each works as a hostess at a night club. Billa is jaded and fed up with men, while Ginnie is an accomplished seductress. When Bob Shelbourne (Edward Judd), a rich executive who is separated from his wife, gets involved with Ginnie, Billa becomes envious. Bob gets Ginnie a job in a business run by his father (Francis De Wolff), who doesn't like the cozy arrangement. Billa's schoolteacher father (William Hartnell) visits, and Billa shocks him by revealing details of her affairs. The romantic entanglements proceed to challenge the friendship between Billa and Ginnie.

The DVD cover is of the film poster as I've just checked it with my copy of the film poster. Yes, the film was released in the USA under the title Pussycat Alley. I wonder what made them think of that title?

Have been checking through my old copies of Films and Filming and The World Ten Times Over went out on ABC general release on 18th November 1963. The film received a full write up in the following issue for December 1963.

I wouldn't have thought there would be a reason for the BBFC to make any cuts. According to Films & Filming in the December 1963 issue where the film was given a write up the running time was 93 minutes so I would imagine that there isn't any uncut footage too.

Beg pardon, I should have said something to effect that it looks as if there will be no previously cut footage included in the new release - as said, it was submitted prior to cutting at 94m 41s and was then subsequently cut. 93 minutes would appear to be the censored film.

The best solution would be to the email the BBFC and ask for the original cinema cuts to compare. They sometimes take a while but they nearly always reply.

I have just pre-ordered my copy from Amazon It'll be a great new year present for me when it's despatched in January 2010 . As far as I know it's not being released outside the UK
