Official Greek DVDs on eBay
I've just been browsing for international DVD editions of rare British film titles on eBay and hit upon this link:
http://stores.ebay.com/greek-products_BRITISH-MOVIES-DVD_W0QQfsubZ3443317 I am about to order a number of discs, but obviously cannot vouch for quality as yet (seeing as I don't have them in my possession). When I receive the discs, I'll leave some feedback here for those who are interested. If anyone has already got any of these, perhaps you could leave a word or two about what I can expect... |

Yes, Liger, it's official. I have had a look and have seen the covers and can confirm that these DVDs are officially Greek. As to being official releases, that's another matter altogether.
The seller does warn you this by thec use of the word 'promo'. Take that as DVDrs. |

I've received the discs now, and can tell you that not only do they carry Granada Ventures logos and copyright smallprint on the cardboard slipcases which they come in, and Granada / Carlton motion video graphics ahead of the films themselves, but they are also factory pressed on double-sided DVD-10s (not DVD-rs).
Here are the titles I bought (12 films over 9 discs): MAROC 7-Gene Barry / TRIO Michael Rennie GOLDEN SALAMANDER / THE DIVORCE OF LADY X HOT ENOUGH FOR JUNE / APPOINTMENT WITH VENUS UPSTAIRS AND DOWNSTAIRS-Mylene Demongeot-Michael.Craig VALUE FOR MONEY -John Gregson, Diana Dors PENNY PRINCESS-Dirk Bogarde,Yolande Donlan MAD ABOUT MEN- Glynis Johns-Donald Sinden Feedback QUARTET-4 TALES OF SOMERSET MAUGHAM-Dirk Bogarde TIARA TAHITI James Mason, John Mills,Claude Dauphin The quality of all films is up to that of the UK's DD Video (i.e., serviceable-to-good TV prints, all at 4:3), and all but THE DIVORCE OF LADY X (which I suspect many people here will have caught off-air recently, anyway) features optional Greek subtitles (removable via the handset). Also, I was pleased to find that when comparing the Greek DVD of the scarce MAROC 7 against the budget German DVD, the quality was far superior on the Greek disc (which also features a nice BBFC 'A' slate ahead of the film). All in all, these are something of a must for British film fans. Especially at around £3 a pop! |
