Default Ealing Studios box sets

Ealing Studios Box Set: Vol.1
Kind Hearts and Coronets (Dir. Robert Hamer, 1949):
Sir Alec Guinness became an international star with his extraordinary performance as eight different characters in this 1949 Ealing Studios classic. Dennis Price (I'm All Right Jack, Private Progress) co-stars as Edwardian gentleman Louis Mazzini who plots to avenge his mother's death by seizing the dukedom of the aristocratic d'Ascoyne family. But to gain this inheritance, Mazzini must first murder the line of eccentric relatives who stand between him and the title, including General d'Ascoyne, Admiral d'Ascoyne, The Duke of Chalfont, Lady Agatha d'Ascoyne and four more, all brillantly portrayed by Guinness and leading to one of the most delicious final twists in comedy history.

Passport To Pimlico (Dir. Henry Cornelius, 1949): An ancient document reveals that London's Pimlico district really belongs to France. And the Pimlico community, eager to abandon post-War constraints, quickly establish their independence as a ration-free state, with hilarious results.

Nicholas Nickleby (Dir. Alberto Cavalcanti, 1947): The classic Charles Dicken's tale of 'Nicholas Nickleby,' a man who is deprived of his inheritance and travels to seek his fortune with a group of gypsies.

Went The Day Well? (Dir. Alberto Cavalcanti, 1942): The residents of a British village during WWII welcome a platoon of soldiers only to discover that they're actually Germans!

Ealing Studios Box Set: Vol.2
1. The Lavender Hill Mob (Dir. Charles Crichton, 1951)
2. Titfield Thunderbolt (Dir. Charles Crichton, 1953)
3. Hue & Cry (Dir. Charles Crichton, 1947)
4. Dead of Night (Dirs. Alberto Cavalcanti & Charles Crichton, 1945)

Ealing Studios Box Set: Vol.3
1. The Ladykillers (Dir. Alexander Mackendrick, 1955)
2. The Man in The White Suit (Dir. Alexander Mackendrick, 1951)
3. The Magnet (Dir. Charles Frend, 1950)
4. Scott of The Antarctic (Dir. Charles Frend, 1948)

Ealing Studios Box Set: Vol.4
1. Whisky Galore (Dir. Alexander Mackendrick, 1949)
2. Champagne Charlie (Dir. Alberto Cavalcanti, 1944)
3. The Maggie (Dir. Alexander Mackendrick, 1954)
4. It Always Rains on Sunday (Dir. Robert Hamer, 1947)

Some great titles there and I am both happy and sad to see the Ealing box sets being released.
Sad because I recently purchased the Sir Alec Guiness Ealing Comedy DVD Collection which has the titles The Ladykillers, Kind Hearts and Coronets, The Man In The White Suit and The Lavender Hill Mob.
I have been after Hue And Cry and Dead Of Night for some time but if I purchase the new Ealing Box Set Vol.2 to get those titles I will also be paying for another copy of The Lavender Hill Mob which is also included.

Same with the new Ealing Box Set Volume Three. It holds two titles I would like to have and two titles I already own.
I wonder whether the distributors have ever thought of releasing Ealing Box Sets with a different mix of titles, just for those who already own certain Ealing titles?

Dave.

Of the four boxests, there are only four films that I don't own on R2 DVD - DEAD OF NIGHT, WENT THE DAY WELL?, SCOTT OF THE ANTARTIC and NICHOLAS NICKLEBY and each one are in each of the four sets (I had three of the previous box sets).

This is the annoying thing about this plague of box sets (Will Hay, Hammer etc), is that I own a large percatage of the titles already and there doesn't seem to be the option (yet) to buy the ones I don't have seperately. I know I'm just gumbling and there are people going to be very pleased with them, but this kind of repackaging is a bit annoying, mainly because there are still Ealing movies such as SAN DEMETRIO LONDON or A RUN FOR YOUR MONEY yet to make their R2 debut while some of these box set titles are getting their third or forth release.

Amazon DVD rental do each of the box set titles as individual rentals, maybe that's an option.

You're in luck then because they are all on this box set:
