Odeon Entertainment has a new range of British genre DVD releases, the first batch of which concentrates on comedies: 'Date with a Dream', 'Double Bunk' and 'It's a Grand Life'.

Interestingly, Don Sharp's 'The Violent Enemy' (1968), with Tom Bell and Susan Hampshire, is amongst the forthcoming highlights given in the discs' accompanying trailer reels

Also, for those with racier tastes, Vernon P Becker's 'What the Swedish Butler Saw' is out on DVD through Odeon Ent.

From memory I recall that they have some Todd Slaughter titles lined up, but best of all is Arthur Dreifuss' The Quare Fellow (which I forgot to include in my original post)

Date with a Dream is especially interesting as (as far as I can remember without looking it up) it was the first production of the illustrious Robert S Baker and Monty Berman partnership, which later went on to produce the Roger Moore version of The Saint.

I was watching the film 'Blackout' (1950) recently which was also a Baker/Berman production. The leading character Chris Pelly (played by the marvellously coiffured Maxwell Reed) is a smooth talking ladies man with a penchant for smart ass one liners. While watching this I wondered if this is where they got the idea for producing 'The Saint'. The film is not unlike 'The Saint's Return' (1953) in style and that film is almost a dress rehearsal for the Roger Moore series.
