Steve; mind if I borrow your thread for a quick question? Have you had sight of the new 11 disc P&P set from ITV DVD and if so, are the transfers significantly different from the 9-disc set?

I haven't seen it yet, apart from in the ads so I don't know if they are any different from the HMV 9 disc set. The 11 disc set includes Black Narcissus and The Tales of Hoffmann which weren't in the 9 disc set.

The DVDs from l'Institut Lumière are very good, better than the old Carlton transfers that were used on the HMV set. I don't know if ITV DVD will be able to use those. Although the DVDs from l'Institut Lumière also have some very good extras like the interviews with Thelma Schoonmaker & Bertrand Tavernier. I don't know if the 11 disc set has all the extras that were available on the individual Carlton DVDs.

No, it seems the extras haven't been used from the French discs (I don't think that the extras from the Network Black Narcissus have been used either; at least a back cover shot of the box on one website doesn't list any extras for that title), but I' have a sneaking suspicion that l'Institut Lumière had the aid of Granada Ventures with their transfers and if so, it would point to this new set being a stunner on that front.

I suppose we'll have to wait and see.
