Could be interesting. Virginia has always been a good supporter of many events related to Violette like the opening of the museum in Wormelow, Herefordshire and the unveiling of the mural in Stockwell.

Is this 'special edition' DVD presented in it's correct aspect ratio?

I love this tremendously moving film, but I'm hesitant to purchase, as I also deplore any DVD that's not in OAR!

As this thread has been re-awoken I'll say that I got it and the film is very good although the commentary leaves a lot to be desired. It's Virginia McKenna and someone who was an editor or something who never knew much about how it was made and couldn't remember much of what he once knew. So it was effectively just Virginia telling a few stories about how it was made, mainly to try to revive a memory in this editor.

Interesting, but not a lot better than just watching the film without a commentary as I had met Virginia at the few events to remember Violette and had already heard most of the stories.

The film was originally released in 1.66:1 but this DVD is letterboxed to 1.33:1 so you'd deplore it Abel. But as it's a film I've mainly seen on TV, I've only seen it on the big screen when we saw it with Tania Szabo & Virginia at Stockwell, it's how I'm used to seeing it and I'm quite happy with that

That's too bad! I'll never understand why, in this day and age when most people have widescreen t.v's, that DVD distributors still continue to sometimes release their films which were framed in a widescreen ratio, in full frame format

a) Because not everyone has a widescreen TV. I'm not even sure that "most" do.
b) Because they found it easier to get the "made for TV", pan and scan print.

Anyone who likes Carve Her Name With Pride might be interested to know that Tania Szabo has written a book about her famous mother.

Tania has dramatically recreated the two 1944 missions of Lieutenant Violette Szabó, GC, SOE Secret Agent in WWII, to retrace each step of her dramatic journeys in the most dangerous zones of occupied France with flashbacks to describe how Violette became the remarkable young, brave and beautiful woman she was.

Young, Brave and Beautiful looks to be an interesting read. I've just got my copy and you can order it from Tania's web site

...and the DVD is being released in the U.S. in May; possibly in anamorphic widescreen?

The Life That I Have

The life that I have
Is all that I have
And the life that I have
Is yours

The love that I have
Of the life that I have
Is yours and yours and yours.

A sleep I shall have
A rest I shall have
Yet death will be but a pause
For the peace of my years
In the long green grass
Will be yours and yours and yours.

Leo Marks

Just love this poem from Carve Her Name With Pride.

Thanks Steve for the info and I have had an email from Tania who wants to use my words in the guests book as a testimonial to her mother, how flattering.

My daughter is in Manila next week and will pick up a copy of Tania's book, can't wait to read it.

I emailed Tania with a couple of errors I spotted, like saying people left Paris and went north to Switzerland. She thanked me

It's an interesting read. Tania has met just about everyone who knew her mother of course and visited all the places where the various events took place. The book is written like a novel, following Violette in real time but with lots of flashbacks as she thinks about how she got there.

Tania's a lovely lady, I've met her a few times. She's surprisingly normal considering her parents were both involved in such dramatic events.

Per amazon.com this is P&S but Deep Discount.com it says 1.66.1. It's less than $10 including shipping so I'll buy it and see.
