    There's a John Leyton commentary on there but it's FULL SCREEN! The original theatrical ratio was 2.35:1.

    I hope this is a mistake. Fox Video have done discs with two versions, full screen/widescreen and widescreen only. From memory they have never done a fullscreen only disc. Sony have done fullscreen only versions and I hope Fox don't. If they do I will cancel my order.

    I am trying to find out and when I do I will report.

    I recently rented the letterbox version from Netflix. Just the same as the original - no cuts, the real McCoy.

    What a great TIMELESS movie !! As true today as it was back then....

    Just a quick update to my own questoin above;

    I have recently tracked down a region 2 PAL version of this title from Spain via Ebay. It is a 20th Century Fox Studio Classics release. It is in 2:35:1 in its original English language, with selectable subtitles .The box and packaging are Spanish but all the menus and options on the dvd itself are in English.In fact the subtitles have to be selected, so pop it in the dvd player and it's a piece of cake. The picture is very good and there is also an original trailer in English. Why isn't it available in the UK? I don't know but I can recommend this version.

    It appears to lack the John Leyton audio commentary from the R1 release.

    I picked this up the other day. Brilliant! Richard Attenborough is outstanding as the Sergeant Major.

    This was one of those films I'd seen many years ago but couldn't remember much about it. If anyone hasn't got it then go get a copy. Very enjoyable.
