Default Miss Robin Hood

What a joy it was to view the newish DVD of Miss Robin Hood. This can be obtained by HMV over the web site for only £5.99 inclusive P&P. The transfer from 35mm film is very good indeed with only a few scratches to the print used here and there. Very nice to have a superb DVD available here with dear Richard Hearne in the lead with Rutherford.
Joy.

I've just received my copy, and am looking forward to watch it. But, what a howler on the cover of the box... (Sorry, I can't attach it, but you can see it on Amazon etc).

Oh, you mean Margaret's surname. Sadly it's all too common for mistakes like that to be made on old films released on DVD. I've seen quite a few of them

What a crying shame they have cropped it to fullscreen. It should be 1.37.1 - which whilst not a full 16.9 is wider than 4.3.

I would certainly like to see the Stanley Baxter version of Hell is a City!

Is that a good movie? It looks good but I don't think I've seen it. (Of course I know Stanley Baker and Donald Pleasance are great - the misspellings of their names on the cover is scandalous).

Question 2... is the DVD using its correct framing - not cropping the picture to pan'n'scan (or worse).

I believe the names are correct on the finished artwork; the R2 is in the correct 2.35:1 aspect ratio, and like the R1, it's a very nice anamorphic transfer. Both have an alternate ending and a trailer, but the R1 also has a Val Guest commentary track.

As for the film itself, I think it's a fantastic example of 'Brit noir'; tough, believable with some excellent location filming in and around the Manchester area. Baker is, as usual, superb.

Thanks John...

Just as well - I've already ordered it from PlayDotCom... I thought my asking if it was a good movie with a cast like that and a vintage... was probably a silly question - lol

Actually, 1.37:1 is essentially the same ratio as 4:3 (mathematically speaking, 1.33:1 is actually the same as 4:3, but in reality the difference between 1.33:1 and 1.37 is pretty academic)
