name='ddock54']The Prisoner - which i love by the way Bats
Thought it was too good to last ..... I love Danger Man but personally do not enjoy The Prisoner. It's a bit too wacky 60s for me, much like the colour episodes of The Avengers.
Bats.
Network have just released the 50 minute Danger Man episodes, this is where McGoohan burned very bright, only to go bonkers on The Prisoner
which i love by the way Bats.Network have a release deal price of £50,but i can not get any joy with the site,is this another fri 13th glitch

You're not the only one having problems with that site.
By the way, there is some suggestion that Not So Jolly Roger has a minor cut and misses a line of dialogue.

yes I to dont like the color episodes of the Avengers they seemed to loose something of there inherent charisma when they stopped making them in black and white, as for the prisoner I am still trying to work it out after all these years
I love the black and white episodes of Danger Man and The Avengers they have a by gone quality feel, but i also love the colour transition of the Prisoner and the Avengers,do not forget these programes were originally transmitted in black and white in the uk,no colour in those days so the old imagination had to work overtime ,hence a double whammy when colour tv eventually came in,quality tv indeed...nothing like it now ,just reality trash![]()

Although I do not like the later Avengers episodes and The Prisoner I can admire the imagination that went into them. Absolutely nothing comes close these days to the sort of quality tv from the 50s/60s. Most of what passes for drama these days is half hearted and seems to be conceived purely as a vehicle for some pillock (or pillockess) who was once popular in a soap. TV producers these days seem to be operating their own 'studio system' .... if you were in a soap we will put you in Casualty/Holby/Bill/Heartbeat/Royal etc etc ... you lot who were in Bad Girls or Footballer's Wives we will create yet another cop show for you ..... or send you to a strange house in the jungle where you can sing/dance/ice skate back to 'popularity' ... but only if you get your kit off.
I think it's time I went to bed ... night night ... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Bats.
You have had a hard day Bats, lets agree to disagree, the whole tv scene at the moment is in the doldrems, unfortunately apart from the odd classic film/tv series repeated I can not see a way forward.Lew Grade is long gone and he can not be reserrected, that prat nephew is no replacement
The Network site has the cover for their forthcoming Prisoner set and some of the details of the contents. There's also going to be a separate HD release later in the year.

Bloody annoying tonights Danger Man episode on ITV4 - the adverts come in so quickly the dialogue is cut off for some damn Clint Eastwood wannabe.
I do understand that the 1/2 series of Danger Man is comeing out next year.
Special features:
• Commemorative booklet on the making of the series by Archive Television Historian Andrew Pixley
• Extensive image galleries, including many unseen stills

I noticed that error myself, Moor, in the product description. He'd already appeared in Hell Drivers by the time he first appeared as Danger Man. Obviously the main thing is our ejoyment of the programme, and all those Extras, but I'm as annoyed as you by this kind of lazy research. It's usually the misspelling of actors on the back cover notes while the correct versions are on the front.
Agreed, Andrew Pixley does a sterling job, not just for Network - he also goes into great detail for the Adam Adamant booklet (BBC).
In 1956 he was being talked about as as one of the most exciting discoveries in British films......name='cornershop15']I noticed that error myself, Moor, in the product description. He'd already appeared in Hell Drivers by the time he first appeared as Danger Man.

Thanks very much for that article. Is it from Film Review? I have just found some stills
from this obscure film at MovieGoods, though unfortunately none of them have Patrick:
Zarak
I would probably have seen the title while browsing through the book The Patrick McGoohan Screenography, but can't recall doing so.
Not Film Review - Picturegoer. The magazine seems to have become a big fan of his, judging by the way it bigged him up over the succeeding year or two. Mind you, I'm not sure to what degree it was working hand-in-glove with the Rank publicity machine promoting their new signing. McGoohan must have been on the cusp of signing with the British Hollywood company around the time of Zarak.name='cornershop15']Thanks very much for that article. Is it from Film Review?
I was reading just this weekend, in an old 1956 Daily Express, that the publicity posters for Zarak, with Anita Ekberg lying supine in veils, were labelled obscene by local authorities at the time and had been banned....
A moment in time here:
McGoohan Masterclass - Lesson 4 on Flickr - Photo Sharing!
Thanks for the link. So the film was in colour then ... We should be discussing Zarak at dpgmel's new thread but that's how things have panned out! I wish I had more 1950s film magazines but there wouldn't be enough time to read/space to store them.

I guess these were among the pictures of Mrs. Anthony Steel deemed to be "obscene":
The second from the left on the top is similar, but the posters were drawings of course and there was no mature man in sight.... just the lady.....name='cornershop15']I guess these were among the photos of Mrs. Anthony Steel deemed to be "obscene":
They seem not to have been quite so prudish in America. I was reading in an American magazine that a cinema manager was giving away tea bags (I didn't even know such things had been invented then! ) in the streets, to promote the movie, with a flyer telling punters to come to his cinema if they wanted some more really hot stuff........

Only you can decide if that is worth £40 or so.
I daresay the pictures will be crisper and the lips will move in better time to the sound as well..........

And the sound will be more authentic, as there is a slight difference in pitch on US discs; something to do with the copy/transfer speeds between NTSC and PAL I am told...
BTW Moor - whatever happened to the Fairy Glen Hotel in UNDER THE LAKE? The Glen appears in the original 'Guide to Avengerland' as being seen in this episode, and I swear that it used to be there - a brief glimpse of it, anyway. However, it seesm to have disappeared from the prints used for DVD transfer - any ideas...?
