Default VAN DER VALK-original series Good & Bad News...

These have been out for awhile and have received two volumes selling for £3.95 each from a mail order DVD firm.

Fascinating to see, having remembered the 1977 Euston Films version, seemed strange seeing a mix of VT and film for these original episodes made in 1972-3.

The BAD NEWS however, is the distributors, Clear Vision Ltd, have removed all original Thames idents and break bumpers. The original end Thames end cap is also missing, typical of a VHS release fifteen years ago. In its place is a mid 1990s version (although correctly dated). UK Gold would've been proud.....

Picture quality is excellent, which is a plus point.

Verdict- worth £3.95 but not more in view of the horrors of editing, clearly a no no in a modern release. Clear Vision- please take note!

Can you divulge the name of the firm you mention? I'm keen to get these...

It's being offered at that price. But is it going at that price? Is anyone buying?
Sometimes people offer DVDs (or books) at silly prices just to see if anyone nibbles.

I noticed that Pt 3 (featuring Episodes 7,8 and 9) is still availiable for £4.31. How they think they can sell the box set for £80+ is beyond a joke, especially when the episodes are edited! Network could bring it out as a 4-DVD set for under £40 which of course would also be unedited!

Do the DVD-extra's include the adverts that ran some while after the series had finished. It was set to the vanddervalk tune and I'm sure the first two lines said,

Oran je boom..... Oran je boom
It's a lager not a tune

But that may be false memory syndrome as is the distinct idea in my mind that I had a couple of pints of the stuff once and I'm sure it actually was orange........

Was it a fruit beer? I vaguely remember that in the 70s there was an ad campaign for various fruit beers from Holland and Belgium and they were supposed to be the colour of the fruit flavour.

Bats.

"Boom boom a baby .... Banham Zoo .... Banana pants! Hahahaha"
