I didn't spot Wilfred Lawson either - can I ask how you know it's him? Not doubting, just curious.

I enjoyed the Frantick Rebel - it had nice touches like the keyhole opening, the vgetarian heroine and the bit where Graham Crowden and pal decide they're in a musical comedy and start talking in unison. I though Never Turn Your back on Friend was fairly routine though except for the schoolroom scene at the start. Would a highly educated Russian (as presumably Julian Glover was meant to be, what with the fluent English and everything) really put up with a rubbish nickname like Tovarich?

I assume you are asking for documented proof that it's Wilfred Lawson. I have none - but it clearly is Wilfred Lawson - 100% certainty.

Hopefully now this cameo appearance has been pointed out, someone with the proof you are looking for will speak up.

Can anyone tell me if this programme was ever shown in the Granada region?

BFI only list tx for London. Myself and friends have no recollection of it.

Presumably you were down the pub as it was shown on Saturday evenings on ABC.

...would have been a bit too young for the pub! Many thanks though, hope they release the rest of the series.

I had an obliging relative acquire it for me for Chrimbo.

The Frantick Rebel was the best of the three by a long shot, but I also enjoyed the lead performances in A Free Agent; it wouldn't have looked out of place in an ITC serial.

As for the glowing pile, I thought, " Well, that's you fucked..."
