Default A ray of hope????

I see they've removed all of their feature film listings from the site but their transit and aviation documentary DVDs still remain posted. The outstanding orders for those films are still assets that are as good as cash on the hip so it's highly unlikely the liquidators would have allowed them to be taken down unless they have something specific in mind. I think this could suggest that someone has put in an offer to take over that part of their operation. I have to assume they sell more features than they sell general interest titles so it might be their biggest earner and therefore the easier part of the company to liquidate. It'll be interesting to see if these titles come back on the market with a new licence holder. Here's hoping ...

Has there been any word on a buyer?

Can't find anything specific. The bankruptcy was filed on August 1 so it's still early days. The accountants who've been assigned as liquidators are probably still only going through their due diligence to learn about what they're up against. I'm only guessing that there's a buyer sniffing around because there had to be a reason for the liquidators to take half their inventory (the feature films) off the market when these things are still selling and at a time when they'll be looking for all the money they can get their hands on. It's a possibility that they've trying to measure its worth for a possible sale.

A bit harsh. Do you normally dance on graves?
You may have had a bad experience with them, but a lot of other people had many good experiences with them and will miss them

Steve
I had a transaction with them which didn't go very well but they responded via a telephone call and put matters right. So the slate is clear as far as I'm concerned

I had nothing but trouble with them from start to finish. They were the DVD world's answer to Basil Fawlty but as it's their films I was after, I'd like nothing better than to see them (or their replacement) rise from the ashes. There are too few companies prepared to market these old gems ... often forgotten titles and usually in remarkably good condition. I want them back, warts and all - complete with broken website links, defective order forms, an appalling tracking system and people who can't deal with customers. My fingers are crossed than someone will pick up the thread and give us back this excellent source of collectors' films.

I feel I've had a lucky escape from DD - yet equally - I'm sorry that I believed their excuses at the time and that so many people have been made miserable by their 'service'.
A few months ago, I ordered The Rank Collection - but communications were poor and there was no sign of delivery. At the time, they claimed difficulties with their website - but hell - I couldn't even log in to check the status of my order - so I began to think they had 'done a runner' with my dosh.
At the time of ordering - they had claimed that stock was in - yet several weeks passed and still no films.
I eventually found the title elsewhere (a few pence cheaper) and immediately withdrew my order. They (DD) were quite grovelling and managed to convince me that the problem was a 'one off'.
Predictably, the second supplier delivered the package the very next morning. It's just awful that people are being left high and dry by DD - particularly when the company seemed to fulfill a real need amongst film collectors.

Oi! You've broken all our bottles! I'm telling Mr Grimsdale of you......

Thumbs up

Just in case anyone hasn't heard the news, DDHE were bought a week ago by Simply Media, and they hope to be back in business by the end of September.

Let's hope all the titles announced before the administrators moved in will start to appear before the end of the year.

And maybe they'll bring in a good website with good processes, too.

So I hear Simply Media are the backers, and that DDHE director Richard Jones is back in control?

This is the notice currently on the old DDHE (now known as SHE) website...

"The business of DD Home Entertainment was acquired on 21 August 2007 by the Simply Media Group. Subsequently, we are in the process of re-building our website platform, so web services are currently unavailable. Please be advised that Simply Home Entertainment will have a new catalogue available within the next few weeks, whereby full web services will be resumed. We apologise for any disappointment that this disruption in services may cause. Thank you for your patience, and we hope for your continued support in the future."

I second that!!! I've been looking all over the net for copies of their films that I had hoped to order before the bad news. Looks like there's a good chance of us finally getting to see some of these new releases that never quite made it to market (Gideon's Day, Happy Is The Bride etc)
