Pleased to report that Amazon are listing the 1974 series Napoleon In Love starring Ian Holm as being released by Network on the 9th March ( no word on their site yet but then the Forthcoming releases part hasn't been updated for a while )

Would definitely be on my wish list. I remember seeing it when first broadcast in 1974. I remember that Karen Dotrice, Nicola Paget, and the late Janet Key were in it, although not named in the general cast list at IMDB, their roles can be found there under their individual names.



I remember reading that the series was entitled Napoleon AND Love, rather than Napoleon IN Love because the writers wanted to emphasis the part women played in forging his career and his political and military ambitions, rather than it just being about him mooning after some pretty wench each week!



I also remember reading that at that time Peter Bowles wore an earring in one of his ears, which I think he was reluctant to take out even for the sake of his art.

Fortunately, it was discovered that the character he portrays did wear an earring in real life. Problem solved!



I also recall reading an interview with Ian Holm about the series where he referred to the different female character he meets each week as something like "the bird of that episode"!

Goodness! That cast is even better than I thought. Nicola Paget keeps on turning up on my DVDs and I don't even have Upstairs Downstairs yet!
