Shirley Anne Field has been doing quite a few interviews of late, mainly about her work in Saturday Night and Sunday Morning. Probably related to these releases.

Just been re-released by the BFI on DVD and Blu-Ray (alongside Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner). I have the Blu-Ray, and whilst I haven't had the chance to do more than glance at a few scenes - it is FANTASTIC
Seriously, if you have a Blu-Ray player and like the film, this is pretty much a must buy. It looks astonishing. Runner looks good, but this is a couple of notches higher. It also has We Are The Lambeth Boys in HD as well - and that looks pretty damn good as well. I haven't a chance to sample the extras (commentary, a couple of interviews), but the picture quality alone makes this worthwhile.
This bodes well indeed for the upcoming Blu-Rays of The Bed Sitting Room, London in the Raw and Primitive London...

I haven't bothered upgrading my telly for a few years , and haven't really considered a Blu Ray player as most of the films I watch are old black and white films .
But If we are looking at classic films being shown in Blu Ray HI Def quality It may be time to go shopping.
Any Idea as to what kind of output of Old films we can expect to be released In this format ?
I have stuck with my DVD player for now but did buy the DVD versions of this and The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner. However, on playing them both, I found the audio (the PCM tracks) was out of sync. When I played back the audio commentaries, I could hear the soundtrack (in Dolby stereo) playing fine. This could have something to do with the playback of PCM audio on my DVD player. Has anyone else noticed this problem or had a similar problem?
My free with the paper copy of this is great itself!
There's a short article about Alan Sillitoe here:

Surely someone else must have this on DVD and is able to tell me if their DVD player plays the PCM audio out of sync.
This review doesn't spot anything untoward - and DVD Beaver is one of the more techie sites.
I want to show this flick to my 19 year old son, is there anything seriously wrong with The Daily Telegraph giveaway version ? The price on ebay is certainly appealing.
I've got the free giveaway version. The track is in sync, and the picture and sound are fine. I would definitely show it to a kid - if they don't like it, it won't be because of the quality of the copy. Make sure the Telegraph version on ebay is a double pack with A Taste of Honey - it makes a nice little Kitchen Sink primer.
Cheers Rowdon, i'll look out for the "twofer".
