The Oblong Box (1969) 2009 DVD from Optimum is passed Uncut

The Oblong Box is a 1969 UK horror film by Gordon Hessler (Optimum)

Starring Vincent Price and Christopher Lee.



The 2009 DVD from Optimum is uncut.



Peviously the 1969 cinema release was cut by the BBFC and the same cuts persisted to the 1987 Guild video and the 1993 Vision video.



The list of cuts were....



About 1m of the pre-credits sequence (various small trims) is missing.

A scene in which Vincent Price and Hilary Dwyer walk in a garden talking about Africa.

The murders of Carl Rigg and Uta Levka were abridged.

Ute Levka's brief nude shots were missing.

A short scene in which Christopher Lee administers a tonic to a patient was removed.



All cuts are now waived.

I have the Region 1 Midnite Movies edition (a double bill with the remarkable Scream and Scream Again) and it's a few years since I've watched it - does anyone happen to know if this is the same uncut version? I could double check tonight (especially if anyone has approx time codes for the deleted / restored material).

Yes - the MGM Midnight movies is the same uncut 96m version as that now released by optimum.



the old Guild VHS was only 87m long (91m cinema length) due to distributor and BBFC cuts.

I bought this region 1 double feature a while back at low cost and it is a bargain. Good transfers.
