Just out this week is the Region 2 version of Bill Forsyth's first film, That Sinking Feeling.
I received a review copy last week and watched it for the first time, only to discover the original accents have been replaced by some much posher versions.
Assuming this was the US-dub I emailed 2entertain (not sure why they're releasing this one) and received this response today:
I have finally got to the bottom of what happened, it turns out that the DVD was created from the only masters available to us. Unfortunately the DVD master of the original version of That Sinking Feeling is of a significantly poorer quality than that released and sadly it was not feasible to restore it.
Therefore in order to bring this classic film to audiences on DVD a restored international version was used instead. We appreciate the disappointment that this has caused to some fans but it was the only option available to us at the time.
The fact I'm Scottish is neither here nor there when I say this seriously affects the enjoyment of the piece and I'd caution anyone considering buying this version.
It's still a fine film but I'll need to watch it again and try and ignore the accents to get a better feel for the script and plot.
