Swinging UK/UK Swings Again: Network DVD
This product will be in stock on Monday 16 November, 2009.
This nostalgic double-bill brings back the sound of the Sixties, as DJs Brian Matthew (host of Radio 2’s ever-popular Sounds of the Sixties), Kent Walton and the legendary Alan ‘Fluff’ Freeman (“not arf, pop pickers!”) introduce some of the biggest stars of the British Beat Boom era. This amazing showcase features, among others, The Animals, The Applejacks, The Hollies, Lulu and the Luvvers, The Merseybeats, Millie (My Boy Lollipop), Brian Poole and the Tremeloes, The Tornadoes, The Four Pennies and The Swinging Blue Jeans.
Filmed at Shepperton Studios, London, these two half-hour films were first released in 1964 and produced by writer, director and producer Harold Baim – perhaps best known for his ‘quota-quickies’: unique 30-minute travelogues shown in British cinemas during the post-war period in an attempt to offset the dominance of Hollywood. This release brings the two films together for the first time on DVD.
Special Features
Jugglers and Acrobats: originally the short supporting feature to the Beatles’ A Hard Day’s Night, this film shows the rich diversity of the kind of variety acts – jugglers, acrobats, unicyclists and puppeteers – that were usurped by the incumbent rock’n’roll art-form.
Section from Reels Within Reels: this surviving section of the lost film Reels Within Reels gives a behind-the-scenes look at the recording processes of the 1960s music industry.

Anyone know what films these supported?
Swinging UK supported 633 Squadron......all Harold Baim films supported films from United Artists ......
Thanks Wadsy. Fluff and I enjoyed our friendship 'til long after the marriage ended and I was proud to attend his Funeral. R.I.P Dear Fluff.
Earl B,
What a fabulous photo and one you must obviously cherish.
There'll never be another "Fluff".
I recently listened to a repeat of the mammonth 52-part BBC Radio series "The Story Of Pop" . Freeman's commentary style was a major part of the appeal of the series....

Thanks Edward G. I always remember making a computer type sound effect for his 'Pick of the Pops' BBC programme using a comb, milk bottle and other bits and pieces. I've always said I'd like a quid for every time he used it. Here's a photo of the 'Great Man' in Studio B of 208 where I made those sounds.
