This film was shot almost entirely within a five mile radius of Shepperton, but does anyone know where the following are?
1) The airfield where Bertram freefalls about ten thousand feet without a parachute.
2) The supermarket which the ' Living Dead ' trash near the end of the film.

Can't help with the airfield but I'm pretty sure that the supermarket scenes were filmed in Walton-on-Thames. From what I can remember, the area has changed quite a lot since the film was made.

It is indeed Walton - the town centre has quite recently gone through an almost complete re-vamp and very little of the 60s centre where the film was shot remains...

Walton does indeed feature - it's the shopping centre the gang cause trouble in. The supermarket interior looks like a different location though. A quick cut from the shopping centre to the interior on pause and the view back out through the window does reveal this.

Are you sure on this Kev ? I THOUGHT it was all the same place, but I shall have to look again...

The outlook from the shop where it was filmed can seem quite different as it looks out onto another (similar) part of the centre, the old dept. store (Beales), the old statue and seating, or the pub across the road, depending on how the camera was angled.

Well Smudge, if this is the case what is(was) the name of the supermarket?. On external shots a Safeway is clearly visible. However, internally there is a shot of some cans going over with the label ' Mace '. I always seem to remember ' Mace ' as a old supermarket company.

Think you're right on the SAFEWAY bit Kev - like I say, I shall have to have another peek meself; I may be thinking of doorway shots as being 'inside' and that's why I'm thinking it was done in the same place.

Regardless of that it strikes me that the Safeway side of the old centre may still exists; some of the old shops survived the recent cull, but the department store and all that foreground area is certainly now gone.

I used to sit by the old statue years ago, waiting for the bus home after shopping in W-O-T; shame they've torn so much of it down now...

yep Kev - blame my ageing momory - not even any 'pick up' shots going in and out at Walton; all the interiors were completely different, as you say. Not even a clue to the whereabouts of the 'interior' shop from the sign on the shop next door when they first ride in...

...but the pub which is seen in the background (and is referred to in a later post) is still there, albeit now painted a different colour!

Finally, for those of you who stayed up late last night watching PSYCHOMANIA on BBC4, here's the gap where the old DUKE'S HEAD pub used to be in Walton on Thames....

This means that the whole shopping centre from the supermarket trashing scene and the background to it have now gone. You can see behind the 'suicide' flats on Hepworth Way. These were recently refurbished inside, I believe, but are showing their age otherwise.

The shopping centre has been replaced by the HEART development. We saw it for the first time yesterday and to me it is 'Heart' as in 'ripping-the-heart-out-of Walton.' They do have some info boards on the British film pioneers of Walton near one entrance if anybody is interested.

In last night's BBC4 documentary it was said that the interiors for the supermarket sweep were done at the FINE FARE in Shepperton High St. Can anyone verify this?

He did indeed say Shepperton High St but I can't recalling him naming the store, but it did look to be of the Fine Fare/Kwik Save variety.

I recall him saying FINE FARE, but my knowledge of Shepperton is limited to when I visited and you could see Mega City One for JUDGE DREDD looming behind someone's back garden....

No need to ask 3 times. People only visit here when they have time. I'm sure someone will answer eventually
