Default Make Me an Offer (1954)

Group3 production with the interiors shot at Beaconsfield, but does anybody recognise the stately home?

Shardeloes
Quote:
Uninhabited and neglected by 1953 Shardeloes was bought by a property company headed by Sir Ian McTaggart, hoping to demolish the house and redevelop the site.
Quite true to life as the film was shot the following year and about a house clearance prior to demolition. Was also used in an episode of Jason King helmed by the same director (Frankel).

Leo Sayer now resides there:

Have you ever visited? Just wondering as there's a small cottage to the rear that Finch visits. (obviously this could be anywhere and just edited to appear in the grounds)

Shardeloes is (research tells me) an early work of Robert Adam and the house is not on its own - there is (apparently) a 'lower house' of his as well, so it's likely that your cottage could be in the grounds nearby.

There's an aerial shot in the link below but unfortunately it doesn't show the whole of the grounds. It's out of the range of Live Maps so I haven't been able to check it that way either.

This is the cottage. Reminds me a tad of The Collector.

It does remind you of THE COLLECTOR. It looks very much 'old Bucks' and along the lines of the houses in surrounding villages such as Amersham and Missenden, so I'd guess that it's remote from Shardeloes...

Michael Dennison and Dulcie Gray also lived at Shardeloes, which is now divided into apartments.

Also looks a bit like the house in The Admirable Crichton, probably not though.
