Guildford Cathedral does look quite ominous, you can see it from the A3 up on the hill and every time I drive that route I always think of the film! And what about the other church that features in the film? Patrick Troughton gets spiked by a falling lightning conductor pole at All Saints Church, Fulham. It is immmediatly on the north side of Putney Bridge by the river (on the left if you are travelling from the south side of the river over Putney Bridge) The riverside walk is there where Gregory peck has the meeting with the priest before he runs off into the church yard to meet his fate!

Faginsgirl,
Below is Wikipedia's take on the "Curse" that surrounded the making of the movie in real life. I think the real-life decapitation referred to involved a car accident where a lady un-connected with the crew or production team died when her car struck theirs. In one of the documentaries that accompanies the 2-disc special edition DVD the writer or producer jovially recounts how that incident was a PR bonus that they simply had to use to fuel the "curse" association. His casual manner was almost as unsettling as the movie itself. Is nothing sacred?! ![]() Edward G. Wikepedia - "Curse" In 2005 a documentary entitled "The Curse of 'The Omen'" was shown on British television. The production of The Omen was plagued with a series of incidents which some members of the crew attributed to the operation of a curse. They wondered if these events were due to supernatural forces trying to prevent the filming of the movie[1]. Instances include the following: Scriptwriter David Seltzer's plane was struck by lightning. Star Gregory Peck, in a separate incident, had his plane struck by lightning. Richard Donner's hotel was bombed by the Provisional IRA . Gregory Peck canceled his reservation on a flight. The plane he had originally chartered crashed, killing all on board (a group of Japanese businessmen). A warden at the safari park used in the "crazy baboon" scene was attacked and killed by a lion the day after the crew left. Rottweilers hired for the film attacked their trainers. On the first day of shooting, the principal members of the crew got in a head-on car crash. Quote:

Thanks Edward.
Well a curse? I dunno about that then.......I mean planes and wild animals are pretty dangerous when not handled correctly. Maybe a case of irresponsibility or sheer bad luck???????? Fagins girl. |

Sometimes when a movie has a sinister theme it's like we cannot wait to discover "coincidences" that betray the intervention of "mysterious supernatural forces beyond the range of human comprehension". OK, got that last bit from "Sgt Bilko" (Phil Silvers) believe it or not...! A good example is "The Wicker Man" (1973) which has a number of famous myths and stories attached to it. These stories are always good fun and have the benefit of that "there could be something in it" flavour to it...

Most of these things only look like a curse when looking back on events and a few random events are gathered together. Like the "spooky" occurrence of when you were just thinking of someone and they phone you. How many times have you been thinking of someone and they haven't phoned you? ![]() Or like The Curse of King Tutankhamun, all those strange and mysterious deaths that happened to people who disturbed his grave. But the person who contributed most to the grave being found, Howard Carter, didn't die until nearly 20 years later at the age of 64. Steve |

This is all very true, Steve, but how come they only ring when I'm in the bath.
Good job it's only once a year! ![]() Steve Crook : "Most of these things only look like a curse when looking back on events and a few random events are gathered together. Actors usually have lots of spooky tales about the play "Macbeth" wherever it is staged, cast and crew in accidents, dying unexpectedley and so on, and superstition means it is never refered to by name inside a theatre but is known as "the Scottish play". Spooky tales and superstition is good publicity, I think it is quite easy to link unfortunate mishaps to the theme of an occult film or play. Alice Cooper tells a funny/sad story of travelling from New York to London and finding that the elederly lady in the seat next to him has died of natural causes en route! It was in the papers of course and all linked to his evil stage act and she only died because she was sitting next to a Devil worshipper!
....Cooper himself says his one regret was that he didn't have the peace of mind to draw some fang marks with a biro on the unfortunate lady's neck!....
