I think that is true too and the reason why it was in Wapping is because the pub had a wapping great hole in it. Boom Boom

Yes, it was a 'set' built for the film. According to the DVD commentary it looked so convincing that members of the public walked in during filming thinking it really was a pub.

I had a photo studio for many years in the 80s in Wapping, much of the area was still recognisable then as featuring in many films and you could still spot the occasional film crew recreating victorian London, now it has changed beyond all recongnition. The set of the pub was on Wapping High Street on a piece of waste ground a few doors along from Wapping Police Station and River Police HQ which is still there. Wapping Police Station is a very old victorian building and I was told by locals it was the model for Dixon of Dock Green, whether thats true or not I don't know. Its worth wandering around the area, the church where Harold Shands Rolls Royce gets blown up is St Patricks church just off Dundas Street which joins onto Wapping High St.
