Actually, Blimp is one P&P I have never watched. I tried watching it, and just didn't get into it.

I'd like to go to Highgate Cemetery, but it all looks very complicated. Different parts open, different parts closed off, different opening times and days for different parts. I have a feeling I might go there and end up seeing nothing I recognize.

Blimp is a delight, albeit I understand that some may think that it is difficult to get into. Lock yourself away and watch it and you will not be sorry

Anyone give me some advice on Black Park as kind of a day trip from London?

Is it easy to get to from south-east London (staying with a friend in Lewisham)? How big is it to walk around, and how likely am I to spot familiar locations armed just with my (rather good) memory of my favourite Hammer films? Are the most recognizable spots off the beaten track?

Oh, and at the very least, knowing the nearest railway station would help. :)

Black Park's in my neck of the woods (sorry !) - and it's not that easy to get to unless you're in a car. The lake is the most identifiable feature - the rest is - well - pretty much like any other piece of woodland. If you're into Carry On Movies Windsor or Maidenhead have quite a few locations within walking distance of the station.

'I've only got one spare'

'Well, borrow one !'

Victim again: go and have a pint in the Salisbury Tavern in St Martin's Lane where all the pub action took place.

Notting Hill, I think - it's the bit where Julia is filming some sort of costume drama with Sam West.

Seconded - you can have a decent day out in Windsor, Carry On touring, and it's not quite so stranded as Black Park. Also, if you've come across PUBLIC EYE, you can nip across the bridge to Eton and check out Marker's old haunts. His office is still recognisable today. PENNY GOLD was also filmed around WIndsor and Eton, as was NO SEX PLEASE, WE'RE BRITISH.

Norman Wisdom famously filmed ON THE BEAT in Windsor, although some of the streets have long since disappeared. Just a short walk up the Long Walk you're not far off from the houses used for Sid and Trevor's homes in BLESS THIS HOUSE (the film) and there are a fair few NEW AVENGERS bits in Windsor as well.

And when you've walked your feet off, there are plenty of pubs and restaurants where you can sit, rest and browse through your digital snaps...

Is Marker's office the peculiar antiques shop that only sells boxes? His prefab office next to Chertsey station is till there too (and not too far from Windsor).

Yes Capt., it is indeed Mostly Boxes and the Golden Flower chinese restaurant next door but one is almost as it was back in Frank's time. It's not traded for a year or two now - they seemed to simply disappear after putting a notice in the window about family illness - which has long since faded. We feared the worst for this Marker location (Frank gets his scoff there at least once in the series) but I suspect it is still used as the family home - nothing has yet changed and someone is still feeding the plants in the window.

The church grounds further up the street remain almost the same - these were used in the episode featuring Carol Drinkwater. Turk's Head Court - round the back of Eton High St. - is just about recognisable from the episode featuring Terence Rigby. Marker's base - in Atherton Court (also Esme Crowfoot's flat in Carry On Loving) - is almost unchanged.

Some development work is starting to creep back into Eton (one big change from Marker's day is Tangier Lane - one of Frank's 'lurking' spots is long since gone) but thankfully most of the area is owned by the College and they keep a fairly tight rein on things.

Sun Close - from the episode featuring Michael Pennington - has had bits added on, but the phone box which Marker uses as a vantage point is still there. The one near the Baldwin Institute, which he also used, went about 5 years ago. I THINK the big house which was used in the film THE GHOsT GOES GEAR was the one they used for the episode featuring James Bolam.

LOL - I really ought to write the walker's Film Guide to Windsor & Eton...
