Hi just been looking through The website and came across some threads on football films, Ive always wondered where the Escape to Victory football match took place does anyone know??? it looks a little like the stadium from chariots of fire but I don't think it is, although both were set in Paris, if anyone knows where either of these were filmed it would be of great interest.

It was filmed in Budapest.

There was no filming in Paris for "Chariots of Fire", various civic buildings in Merseyside and Edinburgh stand in for Paris and the Paris Stade des Colombes, venue for the climatic Olympics, is the Bebington Oval Sports Centre, Old Chester Road, Wirral on Merseyside. "Escape to Victory" was indeed filmed in Budapest at the MTK Stadium in the city also standing in for The Paris Stade des Colombes so I guess that is why they look similar in both films!

Both filmed in the Summer of 1980, I believe. Funny that 2 films made at the same time featured the same stadium. Does anybody know why the real stadium wasn't used?

perhaps the real stadium has been updated and doesn't look like a period location anymore or more likely it could just be a matter of finance, much cheaper to film in Eastern Europe and Merseyside than to decamp to Paris and film on location there.

'Escape' was filmed at MTK Budapest's football ground. It looks nothing like that now as it's been totally re-developed.
